Copy of e-mail sent to Marie Mannion on July 27th 2003
(Galway County Council Heritage Manager)
Dear Ms Mannion,
The subject of entering our group for the Heritage Awards
Programme was discussed at a meeting held last Friday.
While it was pointed out during the meeting that the closing date
mentioned on the July 4th 2003 edition of the Connacht Tribune was
July 18th, some people felt that it might be worth asking you if it
would be possible for our group to enter a little late because of the
unusual and unforeseen circumstances mentioned in the paragraph below.
We had to change our priorities and our plans considerably when the
very welcome news suddenly became know to us at the beginning of this
month that Fr. Tom O'Connor would himself be coming to Ireland from
Borneo for the launch of his new book on July 13th. Had it not been
for the extra time taken in connection with these changes, we would in
all probability have been easily able to meet the July 18th deadline.
In fact, and partly because of the changes mentioned above, it was not
until last Friday that we eventually found the time to give our group
a name - which is:
"The Turoe/Knocknadala/Athenry Heritage Group".
Although it has not been fully decided yet, there is a possibility
that the postal address for the new group will be:
Turoe Farm, Bullaun, Loughrea.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding the above.
Please note that if it is still possible for us to enter for Year
2003, we will need a nomination form.
Sincerely,
William Finnerty.
